I can guarantee that that poor eating habits, and living a sedentary lifestyle are causing a lot of these issues. Whether your child has a tummy ache, a stuffy nose, or a bug bite, old-fashioned home remedies are often the best way to help him feel better fast. These time-tested treatments rarely have side effects, cost next to nothing, and use items you probably already have on hand. "Some, like ginger and chamomile, have even been confirmed by scientific studies to have healing effects
The sweet little white gold blossoms of chamomile are soothing and relaxing and contains high amounts of vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin B-2, and flavonoids. Chamomile promotes rest and is useful for easing complaining and whining. It helps relieve anxiety and stress as well as pain and irritation in the belly, being particularly useful for flatulence and indigestion as well as stomach upset associated with nervousness and stress. Chamomile is also helpful for restlessness and insomnia. It steadies those suffering from nervous debility. Drinking chamomile infusion before nursing will impart these wonderful qualities to the breast milk and can help sooth an irritated child and alleviate some of the stress of colic. Being antibacterial, chamomile is great to add to teas or bathes during cold and flu season for prevention and gentle relief of symptoms.
If you are making an infusion of chamomile, only steep for 3 - 8 minutes as it gets very bitter if left to steep any longer.
Chamomile tastes appley, and bittersweet, most kids like the taste a lot.
Fresh Ginger Tea for Car Sickness
"Ginger stops the stomach contractions that tell your child's brain he feels nauseous
Ways to use ginger:
For children ages 2 and older, add a teaspoon of shredded fresh ginger to four ounces of boiling water, and let it steep for four to five minutes. You can add a bit of honey to make it taste better. After it has cooled, have your child drink it a half hour before getting into the car. Can also be used in foot and body baths
Best Herbal Options for Common Complaints
• Echinacea (Echinacea spp.) is an immune-enhancing herb considered a “mother’s helper” by herbalists, Gladstar says. It can be used in tea or tincture form to fend off illness when there are a lot of colds or flus going around or when the first symptoms appear.
• Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is one of the best all-around children’s herbs. It contains anti-inflammatory essential oils, and its flowers make a soothing tea that settles the nervous system. It promotes digestion and is good for colicky babies. Cham-omile tea can calm a stressed or nervous child. A massage oil with added chamomile essential oil can be used to calm a child or to soothe sore, achy muscles. A few drops of tincture before feeding time aids digestion.
• Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is an herbal relaxant that can soothe an agitated nervous system. Helpful in treating teething or colic and the onset of colds, it can serve as a digestive aid. A few drops of tincture before bedtime will calm fussy children, and a couple of drops before meals can serve as a digestive aid.
• Mullein flower (Verbascum spp.), in the form of warmed oil, is helpful for treating bronchial congestion or simple ear infections associated with colds and flus. Gladstar says she has seen mullein and/or garlic work in 95 percent of cases of her own children and others’, unless there is a long history of infection or the case is quite serious.
• Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is an antacid that neutralizes excess acids in the stomach and intestines and stimulates digestion. Fennel tea tastes good and is used to treat colic, improve digestion and expel gas.
• Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is used for bronchial congestion, sore throat, coughs and inflammation of the digestive tract. Use it in syrups and teas, or give children licorice sticks to chew.
• Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) soothes inflammation. It is useful for treating burns, sore throats and digestive problems, including diarrhea and constipation. To use as a cough medicine, mix 1 tablespoon slippery elm, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 cup warm water and 1 tablespoon honey. To make a tea, simmer 1 teaspoon of slippery elm in 1 cup of hot water.
• Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is calming, antiviral and antiseptic. It can be used as a mild sedative. Lemon balm makes a delicious tea that can be served with lemon and honey throughout the day to alleviate stress and anxiety. Blend equal parts lemon balm, oats and chamomile and steep as a tea for a nervous system tonic.
• Nettle (Urtica dioica) is high in vitamins and minerals, especially iron and calcium. It is a remedy for allergies and hay fever and helps alleviate growing pains in young children.

Now, these are just a few products that I like. When it comes to elderberry, there are a lot of great products out there. You can also make it yourself. Just make sure you know how to cook it because it is important that you do it correctly.
Elderberry, or elder, has been used for centuries to treat wounds when applied to the skin. It is also taken by mouth to treat respiratory illnesses such as cold and flu. Elder has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-influenza, and anticancer properties.
Some evidence suggests that chemicals in elder flower and berries may help reduce swelling in mucous membranes, including the sinuses, and help relieve nasal congestion.
Elderberry also contains flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties and may help prevent damage to the body's cells. In fact, elderberry outranks blueberries, cranberries, goji berries, and blackberries in terms of total flavonol content.
There are several species of elder, but Sambucus nigra, or European elder (also called black elder), is most often used for medicinal purposes. Avoid dwarf elder (Sambucus ebulus), which can be toxic. Use a trusted preparation of elder because raw or unripe fruit, as well as the leaves, seeds, and bark, contain a chemical related to cyanide, which is poisonous.
Elderberry is a supplement you can give every day and should be taken regularly when going back to school. If your child happens to come down with something, I encourage parents to give it 2-3 times a day when illnessi s present. The recommended dosages are listed below.
The nutritional and medicinal benefits of elderberry are pretty phenomenal. Elderberries contain minerals like iron, potassium, phosphorous, and copper, as well as vitamins, such as vitamin A, vitamin B, and vitamin C, proteins, and dietary fiber. Add some of the beneficial organic compounds that function as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents in the body, and you have one powerful berry!
In 2009, Retroscreen Virology of London tested the Sambucol brand of Elderberry syrup, which is formulated using black Elderberry. The results of their testing proved the syrup to be 68.3% effective against the H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu1. Another study conducted in 2005, found the same brand of syrup to be 99% effective against the H5N1 virus, more commonly referred to as the Avian bird Flu1. Other studies conducted concluded that the syrup was highly effective in the treatment of influenza A and B. Elderberry proved to lessen the amount of discomfort felt by those studied, and symptoms were relieved within 2 to 3 days and at least 3 days earlier than the control group.
The recommended dosage of the liquid form of Elderberry is:
For children (1-6 years of age) 1 teaspoon (5ml) per day and can be increased to 1.5-2 teaspoons (10ml) per day, for use during winter months.
For adults the recommended dose is 2 teaspoons (10ml) per day.
Other forms can be dosed as follows:
Dried flowers can be used as an infusion for adults, 3 to 5 grams, three times daily.
Liquid Extract, for adults, use 1:1 in 25% alcohol, (3 to 5 ml) three times daily.
Tincture, for adults, use 1:5 in 25% alcohol, (10 to 25 ml) three times daily.
In 1994, the World Health Organization deemed probiotics to be the next-most important immune defense system when commonly prescribed antibiotics are rendered useless by antibiotic resistance. The gastrointestinal tract is the body’s pProbiotic-Capsulesrimary immune organ – 70-80% of the body’s immune cells are located there. The immune system ensures an appropriate response to non-harmful components such as food and harmful components such as certain viruses.
Probiotics need to be consumed on regular basis, at least a few times a week to maintain their effect on the intestinal micro-ecology. For instance, levels of bifidobacteria in the colon have been reported to decline with age 55 and lactobacilli concentrations may be negatively influenced by stress. Preliminary research has shown that supplementing the diet with several probiotic species can restore levels of important immune system markers comparable to levels in younger controls and that probiotics may counteract stress-induced changes in intestinal barrier function.
The intestinal tract must be in good order and with a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria to maintain a healthy immune response. Research shows that the relationship between gut flora and a healthy immune system is not just an arbitrary co-existence, but is, in fact, a mutually beneficial, synergistic relationship.
Probiotics Work with the Immune System
Probiotic colonies work with the body’s internal immune system to organize strategies that prevent toxins and pathogenic microorganisms from harming the body. Probiotics communicate and cooperate with the immune system to organize cooperative strategies. Decades of medical research indicate that probiotics stimulate messages that promote specific immune responses.
Probiotics can quickly identify harmful bacteria and work to eliminate them. This process may not directly involve the rest of the immune system, though it will still be notified of any probiotic offensives and will support the process by breaking up and escorting dead pathogens out of the body.
* PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES

In addition, established cancers reprogram the production of enzymes in the body to both accelerate their own growth and protect themselves from the immune system. Supplemental proteolytic enzymes have the ability to alter that dynamic.
I like to start a proteolytic enzyme protocol at the first sign of any illness, if you are traveling or going to be around a lot of people or have been around someone you know is sick. You can take them daily. However, a good formula is not exactly cheap so I recommend using them as needed.

* COLLOIDAL SILVER AND HOW IT WORKS
Between 1900 and 1940 silver was the primary antibiotic used in medical practice. Numerous studies on the antibiotic properties of silver were conducted from 1920 – 1940. Physicians mixed silver preparations in their offices and they were either taken orally or injected. The shelf life was poor, as they had no way to keep the silver particles in suspension for longer than fifteen minutes.
The unwieldy use of silver antibiotics gave way to the far easier to use sulfa drugs and eventually penicillin. At the time these compounds seemed more effective and were certainly easier to use. Now we have antibiotic-resistant strains from overuse of these drugs. And we have to use highly toxic doses of antibiotics to get a result in the bacteria that can still be killed by antibiotics, a problem of antibiotic-related toxicity to the humans consuming them. Bacteria do not generally develop resistance to silver unless they have a very thick wall that does not absorb it (it is effective against most gram positive and gram negative bacteria).
Colloidal silver is non-toxic, non-addictive, and has no side effects. The body develops no tolerance to colloidal silver and one cannot overdose.

I want to touch on synthetic chemicals in our everyday environments.
The last fifty years have seen an alarming increase in the variety of synthetic chemicals in our everyday environments. These chemicals have inundated our food supply, personal care products, clothing, housewares, as well as the foods and products that we give to our children. It is the effect of these chemicals on babies and children that is most pertinent to address.
In a 2002 report shown on PBS’ “NOW with Bill Moyers,” Moyers states that “most of these chemicals have never been tested for their toxic effects on children. And scientists are concerned that recent increases in childhood illnesses like asthma and cancer, as well as learning disabilities, may be related to the environment — to what kids eat, drink and breathe1.”
The majority of baby products on the market today are filled with preservatives, dyes and artificial flavoring.
This includes not only food, but creams and soaps that are readily absorbed into their gentle skin, plastic toys they play with as well as the carpets and couches on which they lay. The environment is filled with virtually unavoidable chemical toxins.

Healthy snack ideas
With most kids back in school this month, it’s the perfect time to get inspired with new snack ideas! The importance of healthy snacking is huge, as it helps balance blood sugar levels, provides lasting energy, and ensures good nourishment for you and your growing children.
Yummy, healthy snacks help keep kids from eating too many empty calories, usually in the form of sugary drinks, sweets and candies, chips, and cookies. This goes a long way in preventing childhood obesity and diabetes, which are increasing problems here in the U.S.
Snacks are also important because many children don’t eat all of their lunch, leaving behind half of what they are served. This means they are very hungry by the time they get home, making them vulnerable to unwholesome snacking if given the opportunity.
Here is a list of healthy snack ideas to get you started:
Banana – This snack staple can be eaten with peanut butter or yogurt to make it more exciting.
Apple – Delicious on their own, apples can be even more delicious with almond butter.
Fruit Salad – Whatever fruits are in season at the store or farmers market! Cut them in pieces and serve chilled, with Greek yogurt.
